We start with the model, firmware, region, account owner, enabled services and collection date, then compare the fields you need with what each export actually contains. That first step shows which features produced retained evidence and which questions need another source, before anyone spends money chasing a record that was never kept.
Matter, Thread and Zigbee work depends on the transport, the capture point, the keys and authorized commissioning or account access. Encrypted traffic still yields metadata, and targeted exemplar testing shows how the tested configuration behaves, which we report separately from the historical record. When a clip’s authenticity is challenged, we examine the original media, the provider export history and independent corroboration together.
Evidence handling follows NIST SP 800-86, Guide to Integrating Forensic Techniques into Incident Response, and protocol captures are documented to the published Matter, Thread and Zigbee specifications for the devices in scope.

Connect the Device Records With Their Cloud History
Voice assistants, cameras, thermostats, security systems, TVs and appliances keep different records on the device and in the provider cloud, and the two rarely cover the same period or the same fields. We identify the retention, format and lawful collection route for each source, so the comparison rests on the events actually recorded in the home, not the events a product page says the device captures.
We identify the devices present, preserve supported artifacts from the iOS and Android companion apps and the devices themselves, and coordinate provider preservation and production with counsel. Every retained event is then normalized onto one timeline in one documented time zone, showing which source recorded it and how the accounts relate.
A scope can include Alexa and Ring, Google Home and Nest, Apple HomeKit and HomePod, Samsung SmartThings, connected appliances and TV platforms such as Roku, Fire TV, Apple TV, LG webOS, Samsung Tizen and Vizio. We confirm the account, the app and the retained records for each ecosystem and run isolated protocol testing when it is relevant and authorized.

Amazon voice history, Alexa app and Ring event exports carry interaction and recording evidence, and Google Assistant, Nest event and camera exports carry the Google record. HomeKit and HomePod account records cover an Apple home, SmartThings hub and app records cover the Samsung ecosystem, and TV account and application exports show recorded use and displayed content. Authorized iOS and Android phone examinations supply the companion app context, and the court orders, protective orders and ESI protocols in the matter govern how all of it is handled and produced.

Do Alexa recordings actually help in a criminal matter?
Retained Alexa utterances and events can establish timing and interaction. We read them alongside the other evidence before drawing any conclusion about a speaker or physical presence, and the report shows the coverage that settings and retention left behind.
Can Ring or Nest camera clips be authenticated?
Yes. We obtain clips through a supported provider export, hash the files and examine their container and metadata. When authenticity is disputed, we add the export history and corroborating sources, so the conclusion rests on more than a consistent file.
Do smart TVs record enough to matter in litigation?
Often. Retained TV account activity, app use and automatic content recognition records can show what content was displayed and when. We confirm the model, the settings and the export first, then report what those records establish for the case.
How is Matter or Thread traffic captured?
On a segregated network under a documented procedure, with tool versions and test conditions recorded.
