Free Metadata Analyzer

Read your file's metadata without uploading it. ExifTool runs in your browser to show available dates, creator details, camera and software tags, location fields and custom properties. Search the results and download the complete collected report.

Inspect your file

No uploads. Your file stays on your device. This tool reads metadata in your browser. Your file and metadata are not sent to GDF or an outside service. No optional analytics or advertising loads here. Clear removes this page's input and results; downloaded reports remain on your device.

Images, PDFs, Office files and other formats ExifTool recognizes. Maximum 20 MiB. The first inspection downloads about 28 MiB of parser files to your browser. Your selected file is not uploaded.

What you can inspect

  • Images: available EXIF, GPS, IPTC, XMP, camera MakerNotes, color profiles and file properties.
  • PDF and Office documents: readable document properties, custom fields and XMP metadata. These are metadata results, not a document viewer.
  • Other recognized formats: ExifTool also reads metadata from many audio, video, camera RAW and other files. Browser limits and the records present in your file determine the results.

Repeated tags retain their group and instance. Readable values appear beside numeric values where they differ. Derived fields and browser-supplied properties are identified separately.

Binary metadata is listed with its size rather than exported as embedded images or attachments. Extraction includes supported embedded metadata. A file may contain few tags, none, unreadable records or more data than this browser tool can process.

How to read the results

Names, dates, software and location fields can be edited. Their presence or absence alone does not establish authorship, a complete editing history, tampering or whether an image was generated by AI.

The browser's filename and last-modified date are separate from embedded metadata. Temporary inspection-environment paths, permissions and timestamps are excluded because they do not describe your original file system.

No digital signature, certificate trust or document authenticity verdict is provided. Password-protected content is not decrypted.

Inputs are limited to 20 MiB. Inspection stops after 15 seconds; extraction and report limits are stated with the results. Downloads include all collected fields even when you filter the on-page display.

Metadata extraction uses ExifTool by Phil Harvey, running locally through a WebAssembly port. The report records the actual engine version and extraction options. Engine and license details.
