Los Angeles eDiscovery Collections
Move from scattered business records to a documented collection the review team can use. Define the sources, exceptions and delivery format before exporting.
The engagement
What the eDiscovery Collections engagement covers
An LA commercial dispute can involve project staff, outside contractors and client-controlled collaboration accounts. A custodian list alone may miss the shared drive or project workspace where the relevant record lives. GDF develops a source map with counsel and authorized administrators before collection begins.
For a media or design project, distinguish the final deliverable from source material, versions, linked files and review comments. A flattened PDF or rendered video may answer a content question without preserving the history needed for legal review. Agree which relationships matter and which formats the receiving team can process.
Counsel determines preservation obligations, relevance, privilege and production requirements. GDF executes the agreed technical collection, records limitations and reconciles the handoff. A successful export is not a statement that the entire matter is complete or that every source contains recoverable records.
Scope
Custodian and project mapping
Connect people to shared workspaces, mailboxes, mobile business messages and project repositories. Identify outside owners and inactive accounts.
Preservation and acquisition
Record authorized sources, dates, permissions and export methods. Track unavailable data and collection errors alongside completed sources.
Processing and delivery
Agree filters, deduplication treatment, metadata fields, family relationships and load-file requirements. Reconcile delivered records with the collection manifest.
Evidence commonly reviewed
Evidence reviewed
- Native project files, attachments and available version history.
- Authorized email, chat and cloud-storage exports with source identifiers.
- Collection logs, search definitions, hash records and transfer manifests.
What you receive
Deliverables
- A custodian/source matrix with ownership and collection status.
- Documented collection batches, filters and unresolved exceptions.
- An agreed review-ready delivery with processing notes and reconciliation counts.
Keep project relationships visible during collection
Start with a representative authorized sample before committing to a large export. Check whether comments, attachments, embedded links and file versions survive the chosen method. A chat message that points to a cloud document is not necessarily a preserved copy of that document.
- Ownership: Identify whether the client, vendor or individual controls export access.
- Versions: Specify whether the relevant record is the current file, a historical revision or both.
- Scale: Agree handling for large media and project files that exceed ordinary review-platform limits.
- Exceptions: Document encrypted, corrupt, inaccessible and unsupported items rather than silently omitting them.
For rolling deliveries, keep batch identifiers and custodian associations so the receiving team can identify additions and duplicates. Confirm the receiving platform and required fields before building load files. Collection, processing and production should have separate acceptance checks, with the responsible reviewer identified for each.
Frequently asked
Questions about Los Angeles eDiscovery Collections
Can you collect only the relevant project records?
Often, subject to source capabilities and the agreed preservation scope. Record filters, excluded locations and any limits so a targeted collection is not mistaken for a complete acquisition.
Does exporting a mailbox preserve every linked file?
No. A message may contain a link to a separately stored item. Identify those relationships and determine whether the linked records need a separate authorized collection.
Who decides what is produced?
Counsel directs legal scope, privilege and production decisions. GDF supplies technical collection and delivery support under the agreed instructions.
